My first time in Mumbai was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, and let me tell you, I wasn’t ready for the twists and turns. From the moment I landed, everything felt different, the air thick with spices and excitement, the pace like a racing heartbeat, and the energy buzzing like a thousand caffeinated bees. It was my first real encounter with India, and this country was not shy about introducing itself with full force!

Our adventure began with a hiccup (because, of course, it wouldn’t be a proper trip without a little drama). My wife’s luggage was delayed, cue the collective gasp! I had a sinking feeling that I was about to spend a small fortune, but I also worried whether her bag would surface in time. No one wants to struggle with weight limits (or the lack thereof!). After some anxious waiting, pestering calls, threats and all, we finally exited the colossal Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which was an absolute maze of terminals and bustling staff. I felt like I was in an episode of “The Amazing Race,” only without the stylish outfits and prize money.

After booking an Uber to the hotel, our sanctuary from the chaos, we were relieved to discover that the Sofitel Hotel BKC in Bandra Kurla Complex was ready for us, and we were granted an early check-in at 9 AM. Talk about luck! It was like winning the lottery, just without the cash or the pressure of fame. We quickly freshened up and took to the internet to inform our loved ones about our safe arrival. Meanwhile, a friend I made online during our travel, @Vishal Mukadam, was tirelessly tracing our missing luggage on the airline’s support forums. He was our knight in shining armor, minus the armor and on a laptop instead of a horse. Damn! Bro has skills.

With our spirits lifted, we hit the lively streets of Mumbai. Now, being Ugandan, I thought these streets would feel familiar, like Kampala, where everyone knows what you want and is eager to help. Oh, how naïve I was! Life in Mumbai was a whole different ball game. Sure, the city is broadly multilingual, but one thing I quickly learned was that speaking Hindi was practically a superpower.

Language barrier? Oh yeah, we had that in spades. Most locals in Mumbai didn’t speak English, and the few who did seemed to have only mastered the essential phrases like “50 rupees” or “1000 rupees.” Even shop attendants, who I was convinced had encountered tourists before, looked at us as if we were trying to communicate with a pet goldfish.

Food in Mumbai

My wife, ever the practical one, suggested we start with food, a solid strategy, on par with “let’s not starve in a foreign land.” As we wandered, we had two things on our minds: finding some decent non-veg options and scoping out a fashion market. However, our quest for meat in Mumbai proved trickier than expected, given that most Indians lean vegetarian. I thought I could effortlessly spot a KFC or a Cafe Javas nearby, but I quickly realized that KFCs were as scarce as a unicorn in the city; only ten scattered across Mumbai, and Cafe Javas was like a rare Pokémon, hiding in plain sight.

We ambled down the street, keeping our eyes peeled for any sign of fried chicken. Eventually, we spotted a group of young men happily munching away in a small local eatery. Surely, these gentlemen would know where to find some delicious meat! We approached, only to be met with a baffled attendant who spoke no English. The boys had just enough language skills to navigate their way through life, but ordering food? That was a whole different mouse chase.

In my best attempt at communication, I asked the attendant if he accepted card payments. He nodded enthusiastically, flashing a smile that could end wars. But as we tried to finalize our meal order, the excitement hit a wall. It turned out the payment system was the Government UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which was as foreign to me as Martian culture. Without a local SIM card, I was left with my Visa ATM card and a whole lot of frustration.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, a miraculous scene unfolded before my eyes, a display of solidarity that would make even the most cynical person tear up. Five shop owners came together like an Avengers team to ensure I could pay the attendant. They didn’t act coercively; they just banded together in a way that warmed my heart.

Then, the cavalry arrived in the form of an English-speaking neighbor who swooped in to help me decipher the chaos. He recommended we find someone with a vending machine that could accept my card. Meanwhile, a kind motorcyclist, who knew only the basics of English but was a wizard on the road, guided me through the bustling streets, chattering away, trying to make sense of it all. I think he was either advising me or complaining about the weather, but honestly, I couldn’t tell.

As we zipped around Kurla west, we hit banks and kiosks, big and small, but none had a vending machine. One ATM accepted my card, but guess what? It wasn’t authorized for VISA. We were on a merry-go-round of misadventures, and I was beginning to feel like the star of a slapstick comedy.

Finally, after what felt like a quest worthy of a blockbuster film, we returned to the little eatery, where my wife was now bursting with knowledge about Indian spices (and a few rogue chili tears). “Call Vishal,” she suggested, and I thought, “Yes! The cavalry has arrived!”

When I mentioned Vishal’s name, the entire group erupted in discussion, as if I had summoned a secret code. Each person tried to explain what to do next in a mix of languages, which made for an entertaining scene. After a prolonged game of charades and gestures, I finally got them to hotspot me so I could WhatsApp call him. It felt like a scene out of a sitcom, with miscommunications galore and me playing the clueless protagonist.

After much back and forth, I handed them Vishal’s number, and they attempted to call him. There was a flurry of activity, and at that moment, I honestly thought I might just start drawing a crowd of amused onlookers. In an unexpected turn of events, we were suddenly released on faith bail (not cash bond)! With thumbs up and handshakes all around, we left the eatery, both relieved and exhausted.

Later, we discovered that Vishal had made the payment on our behalf, saving the day like a true champion! I know he prefers to remain anonymous, but this was a hero’s deed I couldn’t keep to myself.

Vishal later picked us from the Hotel and gave us the adventure we thought we could get on our own and failed. Went to the Market, went to the train, saw beautiful things, and had a good time.

@Vishal, you made Mumbai very memorable

So, here’s to Vishal, our unexpected savior in distress, the one who turned what could have been a culinary disaster into a tale of camaraderie and hilarity. Dhanyavaad bhaee!

Introduction

Mocursor Smart TOC is a lightweight, feature-packed WordPress plugin that automatically generates a linked, navigable table of contents from the headings in your posts and pages. It works as both a native Gutenberg block and a classic
[mctoc]
shortcode.

Dynamic — Server-rendered on every page load, always reflecting the latest content.

Lightweight — No JavaScript frameworks. Pure vanilla JS for all frontend interactivity.

Accessible — Proper ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, semantic HTML, and focus management.

Theme-aware — Uses WordPress design tokens and CSS custom properties to inherit your theme’s styles.

Privacy-friendly — No external requests, no tracking, no analytics, no cookies.

Quick Start Guide

Block Editor (3 steps)

Open any post or page in the block editor.

Click the block inserter (+), search for “Mocursor Smart TOC”.

Insert the block and publish. Done.

Classic Editor / Shortcode

In any post, page, or widget, type:
[mctoc]

Publish. Done.

The TOC will automatically detect all H2, H3, and H4 headings in your content.

Key Features

1. Smart Heading Detection

The plugin scans your content for H2, H3, and H4 elements. If a heading already has an HTML anchor (ID), it uses that. If not, it generates one automatically from the heading text. Duplicate IDs get smart suffixes to keep everything functional.

2. Flexible Numbering Styles

Choose from three numbering styles to match your content structure:

None — Clean list without numbers

Decimal — Flat sequential counter (1, 2, 3)

Nested — Hierarchical numbering (1.1, 1.2, 2.1)

3. Collapsible & Sticky Modes

Save space by collapsing the TOC by default (readers can expand it with one click). Or enable sticky mode to keep the TOC visible as users scroll down long articles.

4. Active Heading Tracking

Using the IntersectionObserver API, the TOC automatically highlights which section the reader is currently viewing. This provides excellent orientation within long-form content.

5. Smooth Scrolling with Offset

When a reader clicks a TOC link, the page scrolls smoothly to that section. You can set a custom offset (in pixels) to account for fixed headers or admin bars.

6. Fine-Grained Control

Exclude headings by text (comma-separated list)

Skip the first N headings (great for skipping the post title)

Toggle individual heading levels (H2, H3, H4) on/off

Add a “Back to Top” link at the bottom of the TOC

Block Editor vs. Shortcode

Feature

Gutenberg Block

[mctoc] Shortcode

Live preview in editor

✅ Yes

❌ No

Design controls (colors, spacing, borders)

✅ Yes (via block sidebar)

❌ Limited (via theme CSS)

Works in Classic Editor

❌ No

✅ Yes

Works in text widgets

❌ No

✅ Yes

Works in PHP templates

❌ No

✅ Yes (
do_shortcode()
)

All customization attributes

✅ Yes (via inspector)

✅ Yes (via shortcode attributes)

Shortcode Examples

For Classic Editor users, the
[mctoc]
shortcode accepts several attributes:

[mctoc title=”On This Page” numbering=”nested” collapsed=”true”]

All available attributes:

title
— Custom heading text (default: “Table of Contents”)

include_h2
/
include_h3
/
include_h4
— true/false

exclude
— Comma-separated heading texts to exclude

numbering
— “none”, “decimal”, or “nested”

collapsed
— Start collapsed (true/false)

sticky
— Enable sticky positioning

offset
— Scroll offset in pixels

skip
— Skip first N headings

back_to_top
— Show Back to Top link

Theme Integration & Customization

The TOC inherits your theme’s design tokens automatically. It uses these CSS custom properties if they exist:

--wp--preset--color--primary
— Link and active highlight color

--wp--preset--color--contrast
— Border and text color

--wp--preset--color--base
— Sticky mode background

--wp-admin--admin-bar--height
— Admin bar offset for sticky mode

When using the Gutenberg block, you can customize colors, typography, spacing, and borders directly from the block sidebar — no CSS required.

Custom CSS example: Change the active link color:

.mctoc__link–active a {
    color: #e74c3c;
}

Accessibility First

Mocursor Smart TOC was built with accessibility at its core:

Semantic HTML using
<nav>
and heading structures

Proper ARIA attributes (
aria-expanded
, etc.)

Full keyboard navigation support

Screen reader friendly (toggle button text changes contextually)

hidden
attribute used for collapsed content

Respects
prefers-reduced-motion
browser setting

Performance & Privacy

Performance

No frameworks — Pure vanilla JavaScript

Zero external requests — Everything runs on your server

Tiny footprint — Under 3KB CSS + under 3KB JS (minified)

Smart active tracking — Uses IntersectionObserver, not scroll events

Server-side rendering — TOC HTML generated in PHP, not client-side

Privacy (GDPR Compliant)

Mocursor Smart TOC collects zero user data. No cookies. No local storage. No analytics. No third-party scripts. No external HTTP requests. It’s fully GDPR compliant out of the box — no privacy policy update needed.

Requirements

WordPress 6.4 or higher

PHP 7.4 or higher

Any theme (block-enabled or classic)

Frequently Asked Questions

When you own a domain, setting up your email correctly is crucial. You want your emails to reach your audience, look professional, and protect your reputation. That’s where DNS email records come in! In this post, we’ll break down four essential types of records that is MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC so you can understand their importance and how they can help your business thrive.

This is just to educate you about the DNS Email Records, however feel free to ask me for configuration help here by filling the form or reachout to the team at Cursor Technologies or a team from Ablestate

What Are DNS Email Records?

DNS (Domain Name System) email records are vital pieces of information that help route email traffic and verify the authenticity of emails sent from your domain. Proper configuration of these records ensures that your emails reach the inboxes of your recipients, protects your business from impersonation, and helps maintain your brand’s reputation.

MX Record: The Mailman of Your Domain

Imagine your email is like a letter you want to deliver. The MX (Mail Exchange) record acts as the address for your mailbox. It tells the internet where to send emails intended for your domain. Without it, any emails sent to you might get lost or bounce back.

For example, if someone tries to send you an email at it@mosescursor.com, the MX record ensures that the email goes to the right server that handles incoming messages. A properly configured MX record means you’ll receive emails correctly and never miss important communications.

Consider a small business that fails to set up its MX records correctly. They might miss crucial client inquiries or orders, leading to lost business opportunities and frustrated customers.

To ensure your MX records are correctly configured, you can use online tools like MXToolbox to check your setup. Alternatively you can use the Zoho Mail Tools dashboard

SPF Record: Your Domain’s Bodyguard

Have you ever received an email that looked suspicious, like it came from your bank but really didn’t? The SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record helps prevent that kind of fraud by specifying which servers are allowed to send emails on behalf of your domain.

Think of the SPF record as a guest list for a party. Only those on the list can send invitations. For your business, this means that if someone tries to send an email pretending to be you from an unauthorized server, it’ll be blocked. This protects your reputation and keeps your customers safe from phishing attacks.

A startup that configures its SPF record can prevent scammers from sending out fake emails posing as official communications. This not only protects the business but also helps maintain trust with its customers, reducing the risk of lost sales due to fraud.

You can easily create your SPF record using online SPF record generators, which guide you through the process. Most third party Email Service providers will have these pre configured for you and you need not to worry. Just place the configs in the right place and you are good to go

DKIM Record: The Signature of Trust

Ever received a letter with a fancy signature? That’s how DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) works. It adds a digital signature to your emails, helping email providers verify that the message is genuinely from you and hasn’t been altered in transit.

When you send an email, the DKIM record ensures that recipients can check the signature. If the signature matches, they can trust that the email is legitimate. This helps your emails land in inboxes rather than spam folders, increasing the chances of your messages being read.

Imagine a company that has successfully set up DKIM records. Their email marketing campaigns see higher open rates since fewer emails end up in spam, leading to more engagement and sales. This is not a Guarantee that your email won’t go to spam. It just reduces the chances of your emails ending in the spam box due to failed identification or misidentification.

Also be advised that there are other reasons why an email may end up in spam forexample Poor sender reputation due to past emails, Misleading subject lines, High image-to-text ratio, Use of spammy keywords, unsubscribing issues, Too many links, too much unfiltered Ai Content or duplicate content, Using a free email service for bulk sending.

Many email service providers offer guides for generating and configuring DKIM records. Following these guides will help you get set up correctly.

DMARC Record: Your Protection Against Impersonation

Lastly, the DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) record is like a security blanket for your domain. It combines SPF and DKIM to provide a comprehensive defense against email impersonation.

Imagine you’re a business owner who wants to ensure that no one can pretend to be you. A DMARC record allows you to set rules on how to handle emails that fail SPF or DKIM checks. You can specify that these emails be quarantined or rejected entirely. This not only protects your brand but also builds trust with your customers.

A business that implements DMARC can receive reports on any failed email attempts and take action to tighten their security measures. This proactive approach helps maintain their business integrity and safeguards customer information.

To set up DMARC records, you can use online DMARC record generators that simplify the process for you. Monitoring tools can also help you track your email authentication status.

FAQs About DNS Email Records

1. How do I know if my DNS email records are correctly set up?
You can use tools like MXToolbox or DNSstuff to check the configuration of your MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records.

2. Can I set up these records myself?
Yes! Most domain registrars and hosting providers offer user-friendly interfaces for managing DNS records. Additionally, there are many online resources and guides to help you.

3. What happens if I don’t set up these records?
Without proper DNS email records, your emails may not reach their intended recipients, risk being marked as spam, or leave your domain vulnerable to impersonation and fraud.

Conclusion: Set Up Your DNS Email Records Today!

Understanding and properly configuring your DNS email records MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC can make a significant difference for your business. These records ensure that your emails reach the right people, protect your domain’s reputation, and help you establish trust with your customers.

Don’t overlook these essential tools! Take the time to set them up correctly, and watch your email communications improve. Remember, a strong email presence is key to growing your business and maintaining a professional image online. By following the steps outlined in this post and utilizing the provided resources, you’ll be on your way to mastering your domain’s email setup in no time!

In recent months, there’s been a sharp rise in Facebook account hacking cases — not just globally, but here in Uganda and across Africa. Many people wake up to find their Facebook accounts posting strange links, sending spam messages, or worse — completely disabled for “suspicious activity.” It happened to me several times and since I am not a social media kinda person, I always gave up my Facebook accounts. Some accounts I had had for a very long time (years) and some I even didn’t care about.

It came to a time when regardless of my Facebook account name, I would still be hacked. I got mad. A time came when my name was banned. No new Facebook account could be created with my name in it. Cleared everything eventually but it took a very long while. This got to me and broke me big time.

The scary part? Most of these hacks do not affect the Main Facebook account. This is a very big problem since you may not even know you are Hacked. Many Facebook account hacks are connected to fake pages and Instagram accounts that are linked behind the scenes. Once your account is flagged, Facebook may suspend it for review, making recovery a real struggle. Sometimes you don’t even get lucky enough and can get your account blocked for good.

In this article, we’ll show you how you recover your hacked Facebook account, the best security settings to enable, and how to prevent it from ever happening again.

1. How to Recover a Hacked Facebook Account

If your Facebook account has been hacked or disabled, don’t panic — try to follow these steps carefully.

Use Facebook’s Official Recovery Page

Go to facebook.com/hacked.
This is the safest and fastest way to start recovery. Facebook will ask questions to verify your identity and walk you through resetting your login details. Before you attempt anything, start here.

Reset Your Password

If you still have access to your email or phone number, select “Forgot Password” on the login page. Reset your account using a strong new password — avoid reusing old ones. Avoid using similar pass-phrases or the common words. Common words vary per individual and some of these include you name, date_of_birth, children’s names, spouse details.

Check for Suspicious Connections

After recovery, visit your Settings → Security → Apps and Websites and remove any unfamiliar apps, pages, or connected Instagram accounts.

Report the Incident

If your account has been used for scams or spam, report it using Facebook’s Help Center. This helps protect your friends and prevent further misuse.

2. Strengthen Your Facebook Security (2025 Tips)

Even if you haven’t been hacked, it’s wise to secure your account right now. And these little steps can help.

Turn On Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Go to Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication. Choose either SMS or an Authenticator app. This adds a powerful layer of protection. You may need a subscription for the sms option but the Authenticator app is free.

Review your Active Devices
In Settings → Security → Where You’re Logged In, you can see all devices using your account. Log out of any that you don’t recognize. The best option is to logout all devices except the current device.

CAUTION: Don’t do this on an unfamiliar device as this will further compromise security. Always be careful where you login. The devices you login on and keep active are very crucial in the case your account ever gets compromised.

Update Your Recovery Details
Make sure your recovery details for example your email and phone number are valid and accessible. These are critical for account recovery. Fill out as much information as possible. Do not leave options blank unless you don’t have them. These are your fall back position incase of an attack

Avoid Phishing Links
Links are a very good option for sharing and accessing information. You don’t need to click on all links you encounter. Links are not to be trusted because they come from a familiar account. Every account is susceptible to hacks. Never click on messages offering free followers, rewards, or verification badges. Most are scams designed to steal your login info. Through these links many people have rendered their accounts vulnerable.

Use a Strong, Unique Password
Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using your name, birthday, or common words. I have always recommended LastPass for generating passwords. This helps me generate un-intelligible passwords and these will always pass dictionary attacks. Having a long password (14 – 18 characters) makes it more difficult for hackers since it takes longer for password hashing algorithms to break the password

3. Prevent Future Hacks

Once you’re secure, stay that way. Do everything right and monitor ever process.

Check Page Roles Regularly:
If you manage a Facebook Page, remove unknown administrators. Hackers often hide behind page roles. Some hackers add special roles to hacker accounts and keep posting using them and hence affecting your account.

Protect Your Instagram Account:
Since Facebook and Instagram are connected, a hack on one can affect the other. Turn on 2FA for both. It is very important to link your accounts and heavily secure them all. Whatsapp has an option of Linking WhatsApp and Instagram and that could affect you if you have not secured one of them. Add multiple layers of security to Both. Keep up with Meta’s latest security updates. New threats emerge often — staying alert is your best defense.

4. Delete the unwanted Hacker Pages

We always start at Heading to facebook.com and login to your account.

Click on your profile picture and a menu will drop down showing your account and pages linked to your account.

5. Bonus: Protecting Your Digital Identity in Uganda

Cybersecurity awareness in Uganda is growing, but so are online scams. Whether you’re running a business page, a personal account, or managing ads, always keep your login details private and never share them with anyone claiming to be “Facebook Support.”

You can also register your accounts with Meta’s Business Suite for extra recovery options and professional security controls.

Final Thoughts

Recovering a hacked Facebook account can be stressful — but it’s possible. By using Facebook’s official recovery tools, strengthening your password, and activating two-factor authentication, you can take control again and stay protected.

In 2025, digital safety isn’t optional — it’s essential. Stay alert, secure your data, and help others learn to do the same.

All across the venue, the energy is high — ideas are being shared, connections are being made, and people are coming together to build something meaningful. Videos and photos being shared all over all platforms as can be

I was supposed to be there.
I had prepared. I had prayed. I had dreamed.
But I’m not there.
I’m home in Uganda, holding a visa rejection letter and nursing a deep sense of disappointment. Rejection.

The Build-Up

When I received the invitation to WordCamp, I was overjoyed. This was more than just a tech conference — it was a chance to be physically present in a community I’ve served and loved from behind a screen for years. The Letter announcing sponsorship was more exciting than fulfilling. I was on top of the world. Like an avenger, I felt unstoppable.

I spent days gathering documents, writing letters, and ensuring every requirement was met. I told everyone I will see them in Basel, my fellow contributors on the various WordPress teams that I am a member or mentee. Everyone that I have longed to have a conversation with. Matt, all excited to see him in person, discuss the WordPress and OpenSource project… When I remembered my WordCamp Nairobi 2024 Experience and the articles that followed

But all of that came crashing down with one short decision from the embassy: Visa Denied.

There was no time to appeal. No conversation. Just a missed opportunity and an empty seat where I should have been. Next up was Cancelling flight tickets, accommodation, trip itinerary among others.

The Aftermath

The emotional toll of a visa rejection is not just about the logistics — it’s about identity and belonging.

I kept asking myself:

Did I not try hard enough?

Was something wrong with me or my application?

Why is it so difficult for people like me to access global spaces?

Is it because I am from Uganda???

And then, as photos from WordCamp started to appear online — smiling faces, contributor teams, group selfies — it hit even harder. It felt like watching a family gathering you weren’t invited to, even though you helped set the table.

A Pain Shared by Many

Sadly, I know I’m not alone. Many talented individuals from Uganda and Africa face these challenges. We prepare, we hope, we pray — only to be stopped at a gate we didn’t build and can’t open ourselves.

It’s a quiet kind of pain — one that’s rarely talked about, but deeply felt. The system doesn’t just deny travel; it denies moments, memories, and the validation of being seen and valued.

Still a Contributor

Despite the rejection, my purpose remains unchanged.

Contributing to WordPress is not bound by geography. It happens in code commits, forum replies, translation strings, documentation, and the encouragement we give one another online. So today, while I’m not at WordCamp in person, I’m still part of the Contributor Day spirit — from Uganda. My heart is there, even if my feet aren’t. I contributed strings to translation. Contributed to the Community Team as I always do. Painfully but diligently

To Those Still Fighting

To anyone reading this who’s ever been denied a visa, overlooked because of where they live, or made to feel like they don’t belong — I see you. You matter. You still have a place in this community.

Don’t give up.

Keep building. Keep applying. Keep showing up however you can — online, in forums, in your local meetups. Because contribution isn’t defined by borders.

This Is Not the End

I believe my time will come. I’ll keep preparing. I’ll keep contributing. And when that visa finally arrives, I’ll walk into WordCamp not just as a participant, but as someone who never gave up.

Until then, I remain a proud WordPress Human — here, contributing from afar, and reminding others that our presence isn’t limited by location.

On January 31st, 2025, I received an email that filled my heart with joy, humility, and deep gratitude — I had been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Yoast Care Fund. To say that this moment was surreal would be an understatement. It’s one thing to contribute passionately to something you love; it’s another to be recognized and appreciated for those contributions on a global scale. Being recognized for things you do for Passion and you never thought people are watching is a great privilege

Today, I want to express my sincerest appreciation to Yoast, the wonderful community that nominated and supported me, and the entire WordPress ecosystem that has shaped my professional and personal journey. This blog post is more than just a thank-you — it’s a reflection, a celebration, and an invitation to dream bigger.

What is the Yoast Care Fund?

The Yoast Care Fund was established by Yoast, one of the most impactful companies in the WordPress ecosystem, known for their SEO plugin used by millions of websites globally. Beyond their tools, Yoast is a company deeply rooted in values of openness, contribution, and community.

The Care Fund was created to reward individuals who contribute to WordPress in meaningful but often under-recognized ways — such as community building, documentation, accessibility, translations, and advocacy. On their Site, Yoast says “We value everybody who contributes to WordPress and wish to reward everyone who does so. Of course, we can’t hire everyone, but we can help some people by giving them a gift of €500,- and an interview to say thank you for their time and effort. You can help us with finding those awesome contributors! Nominate the people who work so hard to make WordPress even better so we can reward them.”

Being selected as a recipient is not just an award — it’s a signal that our work matters. It shows that building communities, mentoring others, and making WordPress accessible are just as vital as writing code.

A copy of my interview can be found here

My Journey in the WordPress Community

My name is Moses Cursor Ssebunya, and I proudly call Mukono – Uganda, my home. My journey into WordPress began out of necessity — to build websites and empower local businesses and in so doing earn a living for myself. But what started as a tool quickly became a passion and a purpose. I found something I loved.

Eventually, I founded Cursor Technologies — not just to deliver services but to train, mentor, and uplift young Ugandans through digital skills. With Cursor Technologies we’ve hosted workshops, Meetups, and created a growing community of aspiring developers, writers, and digital entrepreneurs. This later developed into MoCursor the trainer, speaker, mentor, organizer, supporter among all other things.

From Mukono to the World

One of my proudest milestones has been organizing the Mukono WordPress Meetup. We began with just a few passionate individuals, and today, our meetups regularly bring together students, freelancers, bloggers, business owners, and tech enthusiasts both physically and online.

Receiving the Yoast Care Fund recognition validates our grassroots work and proves that local efforts can have global significance. Let’s Keep Going

A Shout-Out to Musangalo JohnBosco

This recognition would not have happened without Musangalo JohnBosco, who nominated me. Your belief in my work and your kind words mean everything. Thank you for being a pillar in this journey. Always to be remembered

Translating WordPress for Greater Impact

I have had the honor of translating WordPress into Luganda and Kiswahili. Language should never be a barrier to participation. Localization opens doors and empowers more people to learn, create, and contribute. Yoast’s recognition of this work shows that translations are not just about words — they are about inclusivity and global access.

The Power of Representation

Being listed among the core contributors for WordPress 6.7 during the State of the Word was another proud moment. Seeing “Uganda” represented on that list reminded me of how far we’ve come — and how much further we can go. Representation matters. It inspires others to believe in their own potential and step up to contribute too.

Community Events & Collaborations

My journey has also taken me beyond Mukono. I’ve contributed to:

WordCamp Mukono 2025 – as the Lead organizer and community team leader. Working with a great team ensuring all blindspots are covered and hence giving us a bright event

WordCamp Nairobi 2024 – as an organizer and budget wrangler. Making sure everything was moving smoothly

Paydel Summit in Uganda – focusing on digital payments and entrepreneurship as an organiser filling gaps everywhere as deemed fit

Contributor Days – helping onboard new contributors to WordPress

What’s Next?

This award is not an end but a beginning. With the support of the Yoast Care Fund, I plan to:

Expand our WordPress meetups into more towns and rural areas and ensure satisfaction of all attendees. We are focusing on more topics and more contributions. Launch a community translation initiative for themes and plugins. Also pushing the Luganda and Swahili translations further. Targeting is hitting 100% translations

Creating free e-learning resources tailored to East African learners sprouting from Uganda and spreading all over. Making WordPress resources that are easily accessible to have more people come onboard. Mentor underrepresented groups in tech, especially young women and youths.

Contribute more actively to WordPress core, Training, Polyglots, Photos, Community and documentation

Final Words of Thanks

To Yoast – thank you for recognizing and supporting contributors across the globe. Your Care Fund is a light in the open-source world. I can not exhaustively

To the Community especially the WordPress Community in Mukono – this is our win. Your participation, encouragement, and feedback make this journey beautiful. Let’s take this notches higher

To WordPress contributors in Africa – keep going. The world is watching, and your work matters. Let’s continue showing up, speaking up, and contributing. We shall continue sending in our Efforts. The World is watching

And to you, the reader — thank you. Your Support is much appreciated. Whether you’re a beginner or expert, your journey in WordPress is important. Together, we are building the open web — one meetup, one translation, one contribution at a time.

Let’s keep pushing boundaries. The future is bright.

All right, all right, hello gentle readers. Good evening, good afternoon. Good morning, depending on your different locations. This is Moses Cursor again; I have heard very many stories. There are many unanswered questions too. People are asking me, are you certain we can survive in Nairobi with one million Uganda Shillings ($266)? Yes, my Ugandan brothers and Sisters. You can make it and you can have a lot of fun, I promise this, a lot of fun. I don’t know if I can even stress it enough — alooooooooot of fun.

So these are some of the things you can do and a number of places you can visit, and listed below are some of the costs you’ll have to make.

      a) Pricing Disclaimer

All the costs given here are in Uganda Shillings with US Dollar translations and will include Kenya Shillings conversions once we cross to Kenya or where applicable. This is to help us compute properly. Come count with me

1. Transport

Bus

If you’re going to use the buses, you’re going to spend a hundred thousand (100k UGX or $26) on your Journey to Nairobi; you’re also going to spend another hundred thousand Uganda shillings (100k UGX or $26) on your Journey from Nairobi. So that means that’s UGX 200,000 (200k UGX or $52) to go and come back. Nairobi.

Motor Bike (Bajaj, TVS, Hero, Mahindra, e.t.c)

There’s an Option of Using a motorbike. This could be cheap in theory but will match up the cost in the long run. Eventually this amount will be accounted for in the Bike service, Tire changes, Lodging, Oil and Fueling. The cost of Using the Motor bike will actually be more. In order to avoid double costs you will have to start your journey early in the morning to avoid night riding as it may not be safe

Just so you know I am not lying, Bike fuel will be around UGX 150,000 for both Journeys. Oil change at the border or shortly after crossing UGX 10,000. Several stops so the bike engine can cool may cost you a refreshment. This could go up to UGX 20,000. If your bike tires are new then you may not feel the journey since bike tires cover an estimate of 3000 to 5000 kilometers and the whole jurney will be around 1400 kilometers. The tiredness from covering 700km in 12hours can milk your spirit. The boredom of riding a long distance alone is a story for another day.

If you are planning on flying, probably the plane ticket is going to cost you around 350 to 600 Us dollars (1.3 million to 2.3 million Uganda Shillings) which is already above our budget. This is also greatly depending on where you are and also depending on the flight you take. Flight classes range from economy business class or VIP. If you are in this Category, I am sorry to inform you that this article has beneficial facts that could benefit you but are not for you. Read on to know the places you can visit in Nairobi and how much money you could probably spend for each.

If you are still on a one million budget. This is article was made specifically for you. You’re going to take the buses from Kampala to Nairobi and Back.

2. Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate

Yellow fever Booklet issued after the Vaccination

You will need a yellow fever card. I believe you already have this. And if you do not have one because we are time-bad, you can quickly run to Nakasero General Hospital and get the Vaccination. The injection goes for only UGX 80,000. However, if you want an excellent and speedy service, you might need to spend around UGX 100,000. But the cost is 80,000 for both Vaccination and card.

So if you have your yellow fever card, I trust you have been vaccinated against COVID-19. It is not a requirement but sometimes you might need it.

And in some places you will still be asked to maintain your social distance and also asked to still present your certificate of vaccination. To some countries. They are even asking for a vaccine boosters but luckily for the East African Community, you don’t need this. I am trying to keep this as simple as possible, so I’m going to cover only the requirements

3. Accommodation

So before you reach Nairobi, the first thing that I want you to plan for is your accommodation this is very, very important. Accommodation is mainly important. because you’re going to need a place to stay before you get out to go elsewhere. You will also need a place to stay for the night.

Air BnB or Booking.com

An AirBnB or Booking.com service is a service that helps you get accommodation online basing on the place you want. These services are similar and preferably the most common. For these services people choose to rent out their homes or rooms so that other people can use them at a fee. Some will leave you the place to yourself and others will be shared with the host or other guests. You always choose what suits you.

So booking a place will cost you between $50 to $80 (UGX 180k to UGX 300k – using the k to denote the thousand (000)) for the four days. There are places that bill as much as <s>$400</s> depending on your budget and your preference and we have very many places you can go to that are in our range and even beyond. However, we said we won’t be spending luxuriously. Just enough to have great fun and surprisingly these places will be available. You can cook, you can have ready-made meals, and many other alternatives.

So we are not going to capitalize on places that are very expensive. We are going to look at places that are close to the WordCamp Nairobi 2024 venue. So we are going to invest a lot of time. In finding areas around Daystar University Nairobi campus and we are also going to put a lot of attention on areas that are comfortable and affordable. We have rooms that we can pay for $20 a night or even $15 a night and some of these even accommodate up to two people.

This simply means that if you came with your wife or if you traveled as a couple, This could still help you imagine paying $20 for two. Okay, so if we pay $70 for the three nights, we are aiming at staying for 3 nights as the fourth day is a travel day. That means we only pay for three.

You can choose a hotel and pay for a full board, you know. Just to keep it fancy. Okay, so once you have paid, we have so far covered. $132 (UGX 500K).

Having confirmed our accommodation, we go ahead and start planning the fun part. We are going to be touring and also attending WordCamp Nairobi 2024 at Daystar University, Nairobi Campus. Remember this is for people going for the WordCamp. However If you are not attending the WordCamp then you just need to cut out the WordCamp plan and still have great fun.

The Journey to Nairobi Starts

So this is what you will do, take a bus in the night that reaches Nairobi early in the morning, And you will go to the place you booked so you can refresh. Bus journeys can be exhausting so you may need a shower and an hour of washing off. Most places check in at 10am. As you wait for your check-in time you could get a place to sit and have breakfast, buy a sim card in case you haven’t already, buy a data bundle. This is under ideal situations. Under normal circumstances, eat breakfast and start the touring.

Day 1

After reaching Nairobi and having the cool off we start the tour. I’ve compiled a list of places in a nice order to visit them so as to have great fun while we save a lot of time. So these are some of the places that I thought about:

Nairobi National Park.

The first place to visit is the Nairobi National Park. Here we shall be charged an entry fee of 500 Kenya Shillings (15,000 Uganda Shillings). The Nairobi National Park is the only pack in the world that is within a city so it is a very beautiful place to go.

We are going to experience Wildlife Safari that is just a few minutes from Nairobi center. And here we are going to see lions. We shall see rhinos, zebras and many more. This is best to do very early in the morning and also late afternoon. So we are planning it for day one so as to give us value for money .

TIP: If you can make a group of 10, you can bundle up and pay around 5k Kenya Shillings (150,000 Uganda Shillings) for a group of 10 and be given a game drive. Which is an extra 500 Kenya shilliings (15,000 Uganda Shillings)

Nairobi National Park Game Drive

There is also an extra fee upon request – UGX 52,000 for a tour guide up to 4 hours. Still if you divide this into the 10 people in the group it gets to about UGX 5,100 which is still pretty affordable

The next place to visit will be the David Sheldrick Wildlife trust which is also found inside the Nairobi National Park. This is where we find the sanctuary for orphaned elephants. Here we are going to see a variety of elephants that most are orphaned. We are also going to see baby elephants being cared for, being fed, being trained, entry $20 or the Kenya Shillings equivalent basing on the day’s rate which roughly translates to 75,000 Uganda Shillings

The trust is open to visitors on appointment only. Cash is paid upon arrival before entry. It is advised to book a week or two early as the response for confirmation of booking may take some time to come. So this largely means we have to book early. We can only book via contact form on the website. We can also a friend to help us book since entry is limited to bookings only. Remember to carry your booking slip.

Another beautiful place to visit is the Nairobi Giraffe Center. This as our number three can be very exciting. We are not planning on spending al ot of time at a given place. The Math is an hour or hour and a half. You can have this as a surprise for your loved one. I am assuring you, it will give you great value for money.

So the giraffe Center only charges you 400 Kenya Shillings (12,000 Uganda Shillings) for citizens of the East African Community. It’s a popular spot and with the 12,000 they’ll give you something small that you’ll feed the giraffes with. The giraffe center of Nairobi is a home for the endangered Rothschild giraffes. This is a very beautiful species of giraffes that is good to look at and it has been endangered. So this place was built as a reserve. It is very good. If you come into this place early in the day,

Safety Tip: Have your food hidden carefully away because giraffes like feeding, they’re like monkeys when they see food I’m telling you, trust me they’re going to run for your bag. This species is also delicate when it comes to feeding so we are advised to keep our food away. You’ll been given special food to feed the giraffes with. Don’t scare them and don’t be scared. They love feeding from the hand.

This one is only 200 Kenya Shillings (6,000 UGX). As a Ugandan yo will be charged 600 Kenya Shillings (18,000). This was as at my last visit. Currently with the regulations from the National Museums of Kenya. Prices may change slightly.

The Karen Blixen museum is very historical and it is the former home of the famous author of the Out of Africa Karen Blixen. It is set in large Gardens and provides an insight into the colonial era of Kenya. So if you want to see things about the colonial Kenya, this is the place for you. It is beautiful. The best times to visit here is towards the evening before the place closes, Place closes at 5:30.

Conclusion

So I want to close up. I put together some travel tips to help us as we travel. It’s beautiful. If you travel using an Uber or bolt among others.

Travel in a group to help with security. Anything can happen to a solo traveler in an unknown land. Fear of getting lost or entering enchanted territory is top of the list

It’s also cheaper if you travel as a group. It is safer when you travel in a group and avoid isolated places. All of us know that isolated places are bad for security.

The local currency is the Kenyan Shillings however, most places will accept credit cards. But it is advisable and highly advisable to have some cash. And where you run short of cash, don’t worry; Mpesa got you covered.

All right, let me cut it here. See you in Nairobi WordCamp Nairobi 2024. For those still stuck with how to get to Nairobi, I wrote an article here covering in depth what you will need For WordCamp Nairobi.
WordCamp Nairobi 2024

From the moment WordCamp Nairobi 2024 was announced, I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to attend. One evening after work, I set aside time to gather all the information I’ll need to prepare for my trip—dates, times, travel plans, and more. Attending a WordCamp is an exciting opportunity for anyone in the WordPress community, whether you’re a developer, blogger, designer, or entrepreneur. As a Ugandan, traveling is in my blood—I guess I’m a bit of a nomad (laughs).

If you’re coming from outside Kenya, here are a few things you need to know to ensure your trip goes smoothly and successfully:

1. Documentation (Identification)

Before you think about traveling, make sure you have all the necessary documents ready. This will help you avoid any hassles at the airport, immigration office, bus stops, road checkpoints, or anywhere else. Kenya takes security seriously, and there may be random checks, so always be alert.

Some of the documents you’ll need include: –

A valid National ID is sufficient. However, if you have a passport, be sure to get it stamped at the border.

In Summary. The Documentation could be something like this

2. Transportation

There are several ways to get to Nairobi:

Air Travel

Flights:

Many airlines fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), which is near the WordCamp Nairobi 2024 venue and the busiest airport in the region. Some flights may have long layovers, while others may have short or barely noticeable ones. all this greatly depends on your Booking and travel time

Flight times and costs vary depending on your departure point, as do the amenities provided on board. Be sure to read reviews and check comments before booking. This is the home of the secrets

For Ugandans, flying to WordCamp Nairobi 2024 from Entebbe International Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the fastest option, with flight durations ranging from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Airlines such as Uganda Airlines, Kenya Airways, and RwandAir frequently operate on this route.

Bus:

Buses are ideal for East Africans and travelers from neighboring countries. This is a great option if you enjoy scenic travel and is also budget-friendly. Popular buses like Mash Cool, BusCar, Modern Coast, Simba Coach, and Mash Poa run regular routes between Kampala and Nairobi.

The bus journey is usually overnight, with most buses leaving Kampala at around 4:00 PM and arriving in Nairobi around 6:00 AM. The same applies for the return Trip. The trip generally takes 12 to 15 hours, including stops for refreshments, quick meals, and leg stretching.

The cost of a bus ticket from Kampala to Nairobi ranges between $25 and $50, depending on factors such as the type of bus, seat, and seat position. Always ask at the booking office to ensure you book the right bus. This information is provided free of charge at booking offices.

To make the long journey more enjoyable, consider reading e-books, watching movies, studying the Bible, or simply getting some sleep to avoid fatigue. The journey to Busia or Malaba is during the day, while the trip through Kenya occurs overnight.

TIP: To be comfortable, bring a neck pillow for support, a thick jacket (it can get really cold), and a power bank. Some buses have power outlets, but often only one slot per person. Bringing a power Extension Cable can help you charge multiple devices hence adding to the fun.

Train:

Trains are ideal for mostly people coming from Places with in Kenya and other Places covered by the Kenya Railway system. This is a great option if you are coming from areas from Mombasa to Nairobi

3. Accommodation

This part took me hours of internet browsing! Where you sleep in Nairobi largely depends on your budget, booking time, and desired style of accommodation. WordCamp Nairobi attracts many attendees, so it’s important to book early. Nairobi offers a wide range of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to budget-friendly stays. Here are a few options to consider:

a) Budget Residences:

There are plenty of guesthouses and hostels within walking distance of the venue—Daystar University, Nairobi Campus—at very affordable rates.

b) Mid-range:

Nairobi has many affordable hotels in Westlands, Kilimani, and surrounding areas. These neighborhoods are well-connected to the city center and the WordCamp Nairobi 2024 venue.

High-end (Luxury):

Nairobi is home to several luxury suites and hotels, offering ultimate comfort and great value for money. Some are so close you can view the WordCamp Nairobi 2024 venue from your bedroom window.

Bookings (Rental & Shared options):

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, websites like Booking.com and Airbnb offer great alternatives. They connect you to residential options near the venue, catering to a variety of budgets—from low-end to luxury. These platforms are particularly useful for first-time travelers.

4. Event Ticket

WordCamp Nairobi tickets are very affordable compared to other tech conferences. This year, tickets cost $15 for the General Pass and $50 for the Micro-Sponsor Ticket. There’s really no excuse not to attend!

The General Pass grants you access to meals, speakers, tracks, networking sessions, panels, keynotes, and interactions with facilitators from around the world.

To buy a ticket, follow the links on the event’s website or copy this link into your browser: [https://nairobi.wordcamp.org/2024/tickets/].

5. Health Requirements

Currently, the most important health requirement for inbound and outbound travel is the Yellow Fever vaccination, along with the COVID-19 vaccination. While COVID restrictions are not as strict, be sure to carry your Yellow Fever vaccination card alongside your passport or ID.

If you have known health conditions, it’s a good idea to travel with a doctor’s recommendation, in case of an emergency. When I traveled to Wales, I was advised to attach my emergency contact details to the back of my passport, including the following information:

Emergency Contact

Name

Email

Phone

WhatsApp

This ensures that, in case of an emergency, people know how to respond. Don’t forget to carry any necessary medications, as Kenyan pharmacies might stock different brands than you’re used to.

6. Money

Kenyan thousands

Kenyan Shillings in the black wallet on a wooden table

Kenya’s official currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES), and the notes are bilingual in English and Swahili. While it’s easy to exchange currency in Kenya, it’s advisable to convert some money before you travel—USD is the most commonly accepted foreign currency.

Kenya is moving towards a cashless economy, and mobile money systems like M-Pesa are widely used— even motorcyclists accept it! ATMs are also available across the city, allowing you to withdraw Kenyan Shillings if needed. Still, it’s a good idea to carry some cash with you just in case.

7. SIM Card

Getting a SIM card in Nairobi is easy and affordable, costing between $0.50 and $2, depending on where you buy it. Having a local SIM will give you access to both mobile data and mobile money, making your stay in Nairobi much smoother.
8. Networking Essentials

WordCamp events are all about learning and networking. To get the most out of the event, here are a few essentials to bring along:

So to Clean you Computer

Clean your repair table. check for Power connection. Disconnect the connected peripherals and devices. Set your computer on the table. Hold the fans to stop them from Spinning as you blow. This preserves the fans. When the mortar spins under blower pressure it generates a form of energy which actually spoils it in the long run.

Internet has become an essential part of our lives. In nearly everyplace there is free internet or a free port. How do you make a cable to help you connect easily

Ethernet cables are an essential part of the network environment. Ethernet cables help connect routers, switches, computers, etc. They are an alternative to Wi-Fi.

Why would I have an Ethernet Connection

Ethernet connections have Higher speeds as compared to WiFi or Wireless internet

Ethernet or Cable connection have a lower latency as compared to WiFi and this greatly affects real-time streaming. Gamers would find this fact more important to note

Wired connections are less prone to interference. They provide a stable and reliable connection.

But since cables are not perfect. Here are some cons;

Bulky. Cable connections are usually bulky and hence problematic to have around

Inconvenience. Cables are inconveniencing due to the length limit, obstructions among others. Cables can not easily be connected to portable de\vices easily

How to Make an Ethernet Cable

Making an Ethernet cable is As Simple as A,B,C…

Requirements:
Crimping Tool, Cable, RJ-45 Clips, Wire Ripper,

Measure length of wire

Cut the length required with an allowance for wire that will be cut and clipped

Peel off a few mm of the wire at the ends. Cut the middle plastic shield so wires could be free

Arrange the wires
use the Mnemonic below
WO-O, WG-B, WB-G, WBr-Br

WO – White Orange O – Orange
WG – White Green. B – Blue
WB – White Blue G – Green
WBr – White Brown Br – Brown

NB: White Coloreds simply mean the color is laced with white.

As simple as that, you will have made an Ethernet cable.
